It Didn't Start On October 7: Zionism And The Palestinians

A Series of 9 one-hour illustrated talks that trace Zionist / Israeli efforts to take the land of historic Palestine, dispossess the Palestinian inhabitants, and deny them fundamental human rights and self determination. Each talk is 60 minutes followed by 30 minutes of Q/A and discussion. The talks are introductory and non-academic and are suitable for anyone who wants to learn more. No prior knowledge of the history of Palestine / Israel is necessary.

Some themes that the talks develop:

A description of the political ideology of Zionism and its influence in the history of Palestine / Israel
The influence of the 1948 Nakba on Palestinian identity
Zionist and later Israeli efforts to oppose Palestinian nationalism
Palestinian resistance in the last 120 years
The support of western governments, specifically the United States and Britain, for the early Zionists and Israel.

Intended Outcomes. Participants will acquire:

an understanding of the history of Israel’s oppression and Palestinian resistance
a sense of “causality” — why things are the way they are
an appreciation that the events of October 7, 2023, and beyond have not taken place in a vacuum
an increased ability to critically assess mainstream narratives and propaganda
a desire to learn and do more
