    Event description

    Palestine Under Siege

Film Screening with the film makers present! An opportunity for informed up to date discussion - not to be misses!!

Three Australians, Dr Peter Slezak, Rand Darwish and Lee Rhiannon, traveled to Palestine in mid 2023, to conduct interviews and investigate Israel's accelerating colonization of Palestinian land.

This documentary takes us to the heart of the 80 year struggle for Palestine's very survival in the face of the unrelenting, violent settler-colonial project, aimed at ending centuries of Palestinian habitation, culture and heritage.

Survivors of the 1947 / 48 Al Nakba along with Palestinian and Jewish activists, share their experiences and insights of living under Israeli military occupation and apartheid laws. It includes stunning footage and critical interviews with leading Palestinian resistance figures - including Hanan Ashrawi, former education minister of the Palestinian National Authority (PNO); and Jeff Halper, Israeli academic and anti-demolition activist and co-founder of the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions.

Stop Press:  FROM JILL HICKSON - ONE OF THE FILM MAKERS!!!!
" .... I can confirm that not only are John and myself coming to Brisbane for the screening but Lee Rhiannon will also be joining us."

    * The film has now won 3 Awards at International Festivals in Turkey and Berlin, and is into the semi-finals in Sweden! Where else? Don’t miss the first screening in Brisbane!

The screening date is also the 35th anniversary of the birth of Rachel Corrie, a US peace activist, willfully murdered by a IDF military
bulldozer (in 2003) while defending a house against demolition in Rafah.

This film and the Q&A to follow will help us better understand the roots of the current attempt to obliterate ancient Palestine and Gaza.

"Israel is destroying Palestine. This documentary shows you why we should not stand by and watch." Julian Burnside
