PalliCare Fundamentals course aims to provide participants with understanding of the key foundation aspects of palliative care. 

The course aligns and reinforces the understanding of the National Palliative Care Standards as well as the Aged Care Quality Standards and the Tasmanian Palliative Care Community Charter to ensure all organisations are meeting best practice. This course benefits those entering wanting a more general understanding of the broader aspects of palliative care and greater confidence to deal with challenges and to support others. This course ideal for Volunteers, Carers and community members.

The PalliCare Fundamentals course is divided into 6 key units and delivered over a 6 week period. one unit each week. 

The 6 units include:

  • Unit 1 - Palliative care, delivery, and services in a Tasmanian context
    Delivered on the 2nd of May 2023 at 11:00am - 12:00pm

  • Unit 2 - Key Consideration for end-of-life planning
    Delivered on the 9th of May 2023 at 11:00am - 12:00pm
  • Unit 3 -  Symptom Management Strategies
    Delivered on the 16th of May 2023 at 11:00am - 12:00pm

  • Unit 4 - Healthy ageing & nutrition in palliative care
    Delivered on the 30th of May 2023 at 11:00am - 12:00pm
  • Unit 5 - Unpacking Grief and Loss
    Delivered on the 6th of June 2023 at 11:00am - 12:00pm

  • Unit 6 - Self Care for Carers and Practitioners
    Delivered on the 13th of June 2023 at 11:00am - 12:00pm

The key learning outcomes from the course will provide a broad understanding of palliative care and Tasmanian services.  They will explore the role that community services and aged care have now, what they are currently doing, and then discuss potential roles and the implementation of a more supportive framework to enhance palliative care in the community.
