A little history: Rainbow Christians Together emerged soon after Sydney, Australia, was announced as the host city for WorldPride 2023 in 2022. Benjamin Oh and Josephine Inkpin—National Co-Chairs of Equal Voices, the national ecumenical movement of Christians committed to the dignity and flourishing of LGBTIQA+ people—began organising in earnest for the international event. Their aim was to bring together faith leaders and organisers to ensure accessible, safe, inclusive, and celebratory spaces, resources and events for LGBTIQA+ people of faith throughout the month-long program. As there was no resources and funding available for faith groups and organisations hosting events World Pride Faith https://www.worldpridefaith.com.au/ was established to ensure that LGBTIQA+ people of faith has a hub to access support, resources and information for the festival.
For the Christian community, the Queer Christian Roundtable for WorldPride was established and hosted events in Sydney under the banner Rainbow Christians Together. In addition to the Pancake Pride Ecumenical Celebration, these initiatives included participation in the Mardi Gras and Pride Marches, a public lecture, various prayer services, the Amplify Queer Faith (and ally) Interfaith Photo Exhibition (including an online exhibition for those who can't come to Sydney www.amplifyqueerfaith.com.au ), Fair Day Stall - Blessings + Outreach, the Queer Lights & Angels lantern-making workshop, and a Thanksgiving Mass for the LGBTIQA+ community.
Rainbow Christians Together is grounded in following the teachings of Jesus, seeking to embody a prophetic vision of radical love, equity, justice, equality, and hospitality, lived out as one Christian family in the spirit of ecumenism.
