Description

Have you ever wondered if and how research can contribute to the conservation of Queensland’s and Australia’s unique flora and fauna and how do we make research really count? If so, we have the perfect event for you!

We invite you to join with the Queensland University of Technology Resilience Centre and an exciting panel of experts to discuss the topic “Unlocking biodiversity conservation in Queensland: the role of research and are we asking the right questions?”. Queensland is one of the most biodiverse places in the world, but its biodiversity is at risk from a wide range of threats including land clearing, invasive species, and climate change. Traditional thinking often assumes that information flowing from research can solve biodiversity challenges but is this really the case? Also, how do we make research and what we do with it more impactful and do we need to think beyond traditional research practices? In this panel discussion we will explore these critical issues and afterwards invite you to join us for networking and further discussion over a light lunch.

Our exciting panel includes:

  • Mr Oliver Costello - Executive Director, Jagun Alliance Aboriginal Corporation
  • Dr Liz O’Brien - Chief Executive Officer, Queensland Trust for Nature
  • Dr Tim Seelig - Director, Strategic Policy, Department of Environment, Science and Innovation
  • Dr Michelle Ward - Lecturer, Griffith University
