Eco-dyeing on Paper, inspired by the Nullaki

What the day covers

We will fold paper for simple books (no stitching required) and then eco-dye the papers using local plants. There are three folded-book styles that will be covered on the day.

Local plant materials will be provided to use

There will be a selection of plant dyebaths, which will add extra colour to the eco-dyed papers

Participants may experiment with a range of mordants

In quiet moments, while papers are cooking, you might like to write about what you love about the inlet, its plants, creatures, or your special connections - and later transcribe into your folded book – to create a book dedicated to this wonderful place.

Requirements – please bring

200gsm A3 papers, either cartridge or cellulose based water colour paper – you can break down big sheets to A3 size

String for wrapping bundles, scissors

Personal safety – gloves, closed in shoes,

Apron (or wear old clothes)

Optional – local plant material from your garden

Pencil for marking your papers

Waterproof pen for marking your bundles

A dozen pegs for hanging up your papers

An old towel for cleaning up/taking papers home
