Puppetry of Paper Workshop

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

How many things can you make with a sheet of paper?

Scrunch, rip, twist, tear! This workshop is based on Bunraku-style puppetry, a traditional Japanese form of theatre which involves three puppeteers working closely together to operate one puppet. Workshop participants will first work in groups to make a unique puppet out of paper. They will then learn techniques for bringing their puppet to life, as a team. Each group will work on short performances which will presented to the group.

Participants will leave the workshop with a range of skills which can be applied to any kind of puppetry.

This workshop is suitable for children aged 8 years and over. Parents are not required to stay.

Jenny Ellis, a puppeteer of more than twenty years, weaves the whole tale together with a single set of hands, often playing multiple characters at once. Jenny has a Post-Graduate Diploma in Puppetry from the Victorian College of the Arts, and has performed hundreds of shows in numerous festivals, theatres and country halls in every state and territory of Australia, as well as overseas.
