Paper Arts: Materials, techniques, and other holistic considerations.

Paper arts are an ideal creative tool to transform children and young people’s lives by breaking through their emotions and experiences. Paper arts will show you how collage, sculpture, and folding can be used as a form of self-expression, an introduction into artmaking and as means for creating relational connections with your children and young people.

This half-day course extends the knowledge and skills developed in Building Relationships and Connections Through Art (not essential). You will experience a more in-depth approach in the use and application of paper arts to develop and refine skills in the use of both 2D and 3D paper arts to create safety, support self-regulation and foster growth and resilience.

Come and join Lisa Baston - a qualified art therapist - for a half-day program that offers participants a hands-on experience in learning how to support children and young people who have experienced trauma, behavioural and emotional issues and socio-political disadvantages.

Participants will engage in a series of experiential art-based exercises aimed at learning new ways of experiencing art and discovering how you can support your students through paper arts. Participants will learn how to use these approaches to engage with and build connections with children and young people through art-making.

About Lisa

Lisa holds a BArts/B Teaching (SpEd) with honours and 2008 Faculty Medal and Special Education Prize. Masters Special Education (general) with distinction, and a Masters Art Therapy with distinction. She has over 14 years experience working with children and young people with a lived experience of disability and/or health and wellbeing problems. She has worked in various locations, such as special schools, support classes in mainstream schools and in school services and in a variety of roles, including classroom teacher, assistant principal, and as a learning and wellbeing officer.
