RAISING BOYS
28 October | 7–9 pm
Raising boys can be deeply rewarding, but it can also leave parents and caregivers wondering how best to connect, communicate and respond as boys grow.
This practical and reassuring workshop explores the experiences, influences and expectations shaping boys today—and how parents can help them grow into confident, connected and emotionally healthy young people.
Topics will include:
Understanding boys’ emotional development and behaviour
Recognising the social and cultural pressures boys encounter
Helping boys identify, express and manage their emotions
Strengthening communication and connection
Supporting confidence, empathy and resilience
Encouraging healthy friendships and relationships
Responding constructively during challenging moments
Creating a home environment where boys feel safe to talk
This is not about stereotypes or a one-size-fits-all approach. It is an opportunity to better understand the individual boy in front of you and leave with practical ideas for supporting him as he grows.
LEFT TO THEIR OWN DEVICES
Parenting in the Digital Era
29 October | 7–9 pm
Children and teenagers are growing up in an online environment that is constantly changing. Parents are being asked to manage devices, apps and risks that often did not exist during their own childhoods.
This evidence-based workshop will help parents understand the digital world young people are navigating and provide practical strategies for reducing risk, setting boundaries and keeping communication open.
Topics will include:
The apps, platforms and filters popular with young people
How online content can influence behaviour, relationships and expectations
Exposure to pornography and other harmful or age-inappropriate content
Online exploitation, grooming and other emerging safety risks
Practical approaches to devices, boundaries and safer internet use
How to prevent and respond to online harm
Starting age-appropriate conversations about difficult subjects
Creating a relationship in which children feel safe asking for help
Supporting children to become safer and more thoughtful digital users
The aim is not to create fear or expect parents to understand every new platform. Instead, Jo will provide clear information and realistic strategies to help families navigate technology with greater confidence.
