Description

Supporting Mental Health in the Community

The Sing Move Regulate team supports children who find everyday challenges overwhelming, and the educators and families that care for them.

Caregivers reading this might attend the Parenting workshops seeking support for:

- Busy mornings where small changes cause unexpected distress or overwhelm

- Big feelings that escalate quickly

- Social situations where children misread expected social cues, or display sensitivity to perceived rejection

- Children who become overwhelmed by noise, people, change or expectations, tags, socks and clothes

These moments can have effects on the carer's mental health, and even worse, can affect the relationship they share with the child. They can also be confusing, especially when a child is trying hard but still finding things difficult.

This may include children who are bright, creative and capable, but who still find everyday routines, social situations, classroom expectations or emotional moments difficult to navigate.

Facilitated by local educators from Sing Move Regulate, Paula draws on occupational therapy resources to educate children and empower adults about body signals and body-mind communication.

Depending on the needs of your group, they may cover:

  • Different functions of behaviour and how to support healthy development in the home environment.

  • Bedtime strategies that make evenings feel calmer and more predictable.

  • Morning routine ideas that reduce pressure before school, kindy or care.

  • Moving between activities in ways that help children feel more prepared and secure.

  • Ways to manage overwhelm by spotting the early signs and helping before things become too overwhelming.

  • Calming tools using movement, rhythm, connection and simple practices children can learn over time.

  • Words and responses that help so children feel understood, rather than blamed or judged.

Their goal is for adults to leave with ideas they can use, not just information they have to interpret later.

These workshops empower adults to pause, and respond with more awareness and understanding.

Free take-home resources will also be available for families to continue learning and practising strategies for emotional regulation at home.

There will be time at the end for parents to discuss any questions regarding the workshop with Paula.
