  • Buon Cattivi Press

    www.buoncattivipress.com

Buon-Cattivi Press is a micro-publishing label based on Kaurna Country (Adelaide, South Australia). South Australia is lucky to have a history of publishers dedicated to the release of local, creative content and Buon-Cattivi Press seeks to complement this local publishing space with its niche angles and concepts.

The concept of including another micro-publishing label in the South Australian publishing scene arose from founder Dr Alex Dunkin’s work researching the contemporary literary scene in Italy. The name Buon-Cattivi (Good Villains) originated from this work as a nod to the cannibale genre and how the best writing can arise from messing with and breaking conventions.

Since its inception in 2018, Buon-Cattivi Press has focussed its attention on publishing emerging and experimental voices. Its boutique approach allows for a more collaborative process with each new writer and text to produce a final product that realises the author’s intent behind their stories.

  • Matt J Pike

    https://mattpike.co/

Matt J Pike has spent two decades building worlds where things go catastrophically, and sometimes hilariously, wrong — from zombie-infested, or post-comet-strike Adelaide to the bridge of a starship that's usually on fire. Across six series spanning middle grade to adult, he writes apocalypses (or is that apocalypsi?) for readers who'd rather rapid page turn or laugh than despair (hey, why not do them all). He lives in Adelaide, which he has now destroyed in fiction more times than seems polite. He did buy flowers though, sooo... we're good, right? Right?

    www.rosielee.co.nz

Sue Carpenter is passionate about bringing books to people of all reading abilities. Refusing to fully grow up, she keeps her imagination young by writing for children and teens. Her goal is to make stories that are easy to dive into—no barriers, no fluff. That's why her books use simple, clear language, are shorter in length, and are thoughtfully designed to be dyslexia-friendly, ensuring every reader can find joy in a story.

Her storytelling has earned recognition across multiple platforms. She won First Place in the IWW Sci-Fi/Fantasy competition with a short story set in her Blood Protectors world, and received a Highly Commended mention for Lavender Hill in Kids' Lit. Her work has also been recognised as a finalist for the 2025 Te Pae Tawhiti Outstanding Achievement Award for the Blood Protectors collection, and she was longlisted for the 2026 Saint Julius Vogel Awards for Best Youth Novel with Puzzles and Pearls.

  • Tilley Baxter

    www.shortwomanpress.com

Robyn is a local girl, growing up in Salisbury. After living in London and Canberra, She recently returned to Adelaide because, as every croweater knows, it is heaps good. Her first literary achievement was to win a writing competition in the 1990’s. At the time the prize was worth more than her car. With her children grown, she returned to writing and in 2022 achieved an honourable mention in the E M Fletcher short story awards. Writing as Tilley Baxter, Robyn’s debut novel, At the Hem of the Empire, based on the life of Ann Neilson Smith, wife of the founder of Smithfield, reprises the often lost voice of women in the early history of Australian and New Zealand colonisation.
