PARLIAMENTARY EVENT: Dingo: Heart of the Snowy Mountains
Description
Join us for a special screening of Dingo: Heart of the Snowy Mountains hosted by Humane World for Animals, Defend the Wild, and Dingo Culture,
As the NSW Parliament prepares to consider the upcoming inquiry into dingo management in national parks, this special event provides an opportunity to hear directly from First Nations leaders and explore the cultural, ecological, and conservation significance of one of Australia's most iconic native species.
The event will include:
A screening of a short film exploring the relationship between dingoes, Country, and culture;
Presentations from Uncle Lionel Currie (Yugambeh Mununjali and Minjungbal Traditional Owner) and Sonya Grant Takau (Jirrbal Rainforest Aboriginal woman from Tully in Far North Queensland, founder of Dingo Culture and National First Nations Dingo Coordinator);
An opportunity for questions, discussion, and respectful dialogue;
A bonus screening of Moort Calling Dingo Back to Country, a film highlighting the cultural significance of dingoes to Traditional Owners and the continent-wide movement to protect them;
A light lunch and refreshments.
Dingoes are deeply connected to the landscapes and cultures of Australia. Their management raises important questions about biodiversity conservation, First Nations cultural authority, animal welfare, and the role of native predators in healthy ecosystems.
With the upcoming NSW parliamentary inquiry set to shape the future management of dingoes in national parks, this event offers an opportunity to listen, learn, and engage with perspectives grounded in cultural knowledge and ecological understanding.
We welcome members of Parliament, staff, stakeholders, and community members interested in the future of dingo management in NSW to attend.
Please RSVP to secure your place.
