Paruna Walking Tour: Friday 11 October

Event description

Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC) invites you to a special event: an exclusive guided wildflower and bird watching walk at Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary.

Deep in the Darling Ranges, in the Avon Valley east of Perth, Paruna was the second property purchased by AWC’s founder, Martin Copley.

On this walk we will explore the complex mosaic of Paruna’s plants and wildlife with an AWC Field Ecologist, followed by a brunch with a member of Paruna’s Operations team. You will hear all about the key land management challenges at Paruna and how AWC’s “boots on the ground” model protects threatened species such as the Chuditch and all three black-cockatoos.

The bushwalk will take approximately three hours to complete (including a 'Bush Brunch' in the field) and is an easy to moderate hike covering approximately 3km and 230m in elevation. A moderate level of fitness is required.

What to bring and wear:

  • Water bottle.
  • Comfortable clothing and sturdy trainers or hiking boots. With uneven gravel trails at times, strong grip on your soles is strongly advised.
  • Sun protection and a hat.
  • Camera.
  • Binoculars if you have them; a limited number will be available to borrow from AWC.
  • Optional: walking poles if you prefer to walk with them.

Cost: For all visits to our sanctuaries, AWC asks guests to pay an amount to cover the cost of the event or visitation program. In this way, AWC ensures that our donation income is utilised for wildlife conservation rather than subsidising the provision of visitor services. The cost of this event is $120 per person including an expert guide and delightful Bush Brunch.

Location: Paruna Wildlife Sanctuary, Clenton Rd, Gidgegannup WA 6083. A map and directions will be sent prior to your walk.
