PASSAGES / CHEMICAL DESCENT: Closing Reception + Bookmaking Workshop

Join us for the closing of Passages: Introspective Naturescapes. Enjoy the show before it comes down and participate in a drop-in workshop making simple accordion books filled with plant rubbings and embroidery. Basic materials provided, but feel free to bring any plants or crafting materials you want to share.

This will also be the closing reception for Chemical Descent by Eliana Berson, viewable in Studio 34's Lounge, mounted on the stage since this year's Fun-A-Day Community Art show in February.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Karen Lefkovitz 

I enjoy exploring with cameras: both photography and time-based media.

More than ever, I crave the physicality of hiking and paddling, immersing myself in the natural world. 

I resisted carrying an expensive cell phone for years, but the capabilities of the macro lens proved too seductive; revealing what cannot be seen with normal vision. 

This piece utilizes macro photography to show hidden worlds, which are a gateway to larger questions about human perception. 

Caroline Elizabeth Savage

Traveling by car and train influenced my explorations and inventive photographic work, using my cinema eye to make time, light and space move to a stop, interrupt with digital technology. I continue to explore our extraordinary world of light and investigate the existing, vulnerable, and transient natural reality, of the Anthropocene Era. I find wonder and revel in the kick of discovery that seeing is forgetting the name of what one sees.

Eliana Berson

Chemical Descent is an ongoing mural project, and an exercise in repetition as a vehicle for meditation. Through complex abstract patterns, my installation seeks to map the subconscious and find calm within chaos.

This piece has been in progress for two years and is still growing, expected to be ten times larger by the time it is complete. The eventual goal is for this design to fill all four walls and the ceiling of a large room, with an immersive soundscape to accompany it.
