Passivehaus site visit - Inverloch

The running costs of our homes to heat and cool is a substantial amount of our personal budgets and major user of fossil fuels.
We should all have the aim to dramatically reduce both!

Developed in 1990, Passivehaus is a German voluntary building performance standard for very high energy efficiency and thermal comfort that substantially reduces a building’s carbon footprint.
It is based on science and during the design stage the final building performance can be calculated.

Core practices include:

•  Passive solar design, appropriate solar gains, shading, and mitigation of overheating

•  Super insulation and thermal bridge free detailing

•  High performance windows

•  Air tightness - verified by blower door testing;

•  Balanced mechanical ventilation
