Event description

Join us for a night celebrating the resistance to fascism in Italy with music and song by legendary songstress, Sonia Zadro, and sharing a plate of the emblematic pasta asciuta.

"Pasta antifascista" (or pastasciutta antifascista) is a tradition stemming from an act of resistance against fascism in Italy, specifically the Cervi family's celebration on July 25 1943, following the downfall of Benito Mussolini.

The Cervi family, including Alcide and his seven sons, were actively anti-fascist.

They openly celebrated Mussolini's arrest by hosting a pasta feast for the community, calling it the "most beautiful funeral of fascism".

The family later joined the Italian Resistance, but were tragically captured, tortured, and executed in retaliation for partisan actions.

This simple pasta dish, typically served with butter and cheese, became a symbol of anti-fascist solidarity and freedom, and is now celebrated annually on Italy's Liberation Day (April 25th) or around July 25th, marking the historic day Mussolini was removed from power.
