Pastel Skyscapes Workshop with David Wells
Description
As a part of the RQAS Workshop Festival, join David Wells to learn more about using soft pastels and how to create your own skyscape!
This workshop focuses on capturing the colour and feel of an Australian afternoon Storm, including clouds, suburb landscape and foliage. Students will employ blending, layering and scumbling techniques to create individual artworks and explore personal expression, within a carefully structured class.
When: Saturday, 7th of March, 9am to 3pm

Please note-when buying pastels, the tint or tone of the colour is designated by the letter presiding it, for Art Spectrum Pastels, this is as follows
D = Darkest
N = Dark
P = Pure Pigment
T = Tinted
V = Very Tinted
X = Extra Tinted.
It is important to get the right tint or tone where possible.

This workshop is suitable for attendees of all experience levels, and for both teenagers and adults. Make sure to purchase tickets soon as spaces are limited!
**Please note** this workshop will be held in the upstairs studio gallery which is only accessible via a flight of stairs.
Tutor Bio:
David Wells is a professional artist and art tutor, with an extensive background across many disciplines of both performing and visual arts. He has exhibited extensively, and his work has been regularly published in international journals, and has featured on the cover of both “The Artists Magazine” (USA, 2009) and “The Pastel Journal.” (USA, 2009 and 2014). He has been included in numerous national Art Prizes including the Lethbridge Landscape Prize, Queens Wharf Art Prize, Hurford Hardwood Portrait Prize (2013, 2015, 2018), Brisbane Portrait Prize (2021, 2022) and the Lester Prize for Portraiture (2014, 2017, 2025) and was Awarded the Sunshine Coast National Art Prize in 2025.
In 2014 his portrait of Her Royal Highness Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge was accepted as a gift by the royal family and now hangs in Kensington Palace.
