Pasture Recovery and Caring for Livestock During and After Floods

Hear from Neil Griffiths, Technical Specialist in Pastures and Forage and former District Agronomist, about:

• pastures that might survive a flood

• replanting; how, when and what to plant?

• how to sow, seeding rates and fertilizer

• weeds after a flood

• cautions for pasture improvement

Listen to David King, State Emergency Service (SES) Livestock Rescue Specialist, about:

• understanding access restrictions and inundation issues caused by a flood

• planning where your livestock can go and how to get them there

• moving livestock once the flood hits

• livestock rescue

Learn from Local Land Services Veterinarians, Lisa Goodchild, Aziz Chowdhury or Paula Castillo about:

• Assessing livestock health after a flood

• Feeding livestock hay, grain and/or supplements after a flood

• Animal health concerns from pasture contamination and deposited silt

• Hoof and skin infections after a flood

Be informed by local veterinarians, Christine Smith or Emily Streckfuss , about horse specific flood recovery information.

This interactive event will provide opportunity for you to ask questions, discuss and take part in a flooded paddock walk with Adam Little, Agronomist from Ace Ohlsson (subject to conditions).
