Join us for "Hearts for Humanity - Gems of Giving: A Gala Night to End Modern Slavery" a prestigious gala ball held in the heart of Sydney, aimed at raising funds to support the survivors of modern slavery in Australia. This unforgettable evening will bring together passionate individuals and organizations, united in their quest to end modern slavery and empower its survivors.
Throughout the night, attendees will be treated to a sumptuous meal, amazing live entertainment from Series of Events Australia and the opportunity to participate in an exclusive charity auction. Most importantly, we will hear from a panel of distinguished speakers (below), who will share their insights, experiences, and strategies in combating modern slavery impacting approx. 41,000 people in Australia and the estimated 49 million across the globe.
Funds raised for the Freedom for Humanity Scholarship Program will help survivors of modern slavery in Australia towards their final steps of recovery, through education and training, giving them the independence and freedom most of us take for granted! The scholarship program will support selected applicants who are survivors of modern slavery referred by organisations that support them, like The Salvation Army's Safe House program.

Key Speakers:
Margaret is Director, Corporate Affairs and Sustainability for Nestlé Oceania, covering Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific. In this role, Margaret works across a portfolio of iconic food and beverage brands, focusing on Nestlé's agenda to transition to a regenerative food system. She has a broad corporate affairs background, particularly in the healthcare, food and agribusiness sectors, with breadth of experience covering environmental sustainability, human rights and nutrition. Most recently, Margaret has been involved in developing Nestlé's vision for a better future for soft plastic packaging in Australia.
Dr Valentine Mukuria is the Campus Dean at the Australian Catholic University in Blacktown. Valentine holds a doctorate in educational policy and leadership from the Ohio State University (USA), a master’s degree in international business administration from Alliant International University (San Diego, California) and bachelor’s degree in international business administration (Nairobi, Kenya). Valentine’s expertise is in university-community engagement and has worked extensively in designing and delivering service-learning curriculum in higher education institutions in Australia, USA, Canada, and Kenya. Valentine is currently undertaking a second doctorate investigating the role of universities in addressing the protracted refugee situation in Kenya.
Mrs. Tsvetelina Thompson is the voice of and an advocate for the victims of human trafficking, focusing primarily on women forced into sex slavery. Tsvetelina works both locally and internationally using her personal and tangible involvement with human trafficking. As a survivor of sex trafficking, she has leveraged her experience and knowledge to help law enforcement, civic organizations, and trafficking victims.
Melanie-Anne Holland, Mission Leader and National Contact Point for Modern Slavery and Human Trafficking at The Salvation Army.
Melanie-Anne has been a Salvation Army officer in Australia for 21 years. Her appointments have included pastoral ministry in a variety of corps along Australia's East coast, as well as appointments in homelessness, modern slavery and trafficking response, youth work, chaplaincy and environmental justice.
Melanie-Anne will be sharing experiences from the Safe House team about the need for access to further study, current barriers to education or skills recognition and education’s transformative power for the survivors of modern slavery.
