Pathways into industry for LGBTQIA+ engineering and IT students
Description
Join the UTS Faculty of Engineering and IT (FEIT) for a special Wear It Purple Day event unpacking the challenges and barriers that LGBTQIA+ engineering and IT students face while transitioning from study into industry, as well as the pathways that exist to propel them forward in their careers.
The event will kick off with a panel discussion between Jess Mayers (she/her), ACON; Akira Li (he/him), Youth Action Council; Associate Professor Scott Daniel, UTS FEIT; and Karen Whelan, UTS FEIT; followed by a networking opportunity where students can meet industry experts and pick their brains on hiring pathways and the supports they have in place in their organisations for LGBTQIA+ students.
About Wear It Purple Day
Wear It Purple Day is an annual event held on the last Friday of August to celebrate and support LGBTQIA+ youth. Founded in Australia in 2010, it encourages schools, workplaces, and communities to loudly and proudly show rainbow young people that they are seen, valued and safe.
The 2026 them is ‘Colours of Courage’ which seeks to celebrate the many different forms of courage shown by LGBTQIA+ young people, allies and communities every day.
