    Join us for the launch of Pathways to Politics for Women UWA, a ground-breaking program increasing the number of women in Australian politics.

    Hosted in partnership by the Centre for Public Value UWA and the UWA Public Policy Institute at The University of Western Australia, the launch will be held at the UWA Business School and will feature keynote speakers from all sides of the political spectrum.

    Pathways to Politics for Women is committed to empowering diverse women to embrace their political ambitions, thrive as leaders, and make a profound contribution to society. The program offers comprehensive practical training, workshops, mentoring, and career-long support, providing unparalleled expertise for women serious about driving change through political leadership.

    Hear from distinguished women in leadership and politics with addresses from:

    • Hon Prof Carmen Lawrence AO, former Premier of Western Australia, and first woman to be Premier of any Australian state. Carmen’s political experience in the Australian Labour Party spans 21 years in both state and federal politics. Carmen is a UWA alumni and remains active in research and academia at the university.
    • Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC currently represents Western Australia in the Senate as a member of the Liberal Party of Australia. Before entering politics, Linda had an extensive career in the Australian Army Reserve of nearly 30 years and was the first women to attain the rank of brigadier.
    • Ms Kate Chaney MP is the first female Independent Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives as she represents the seat of Curtin. Kate was successfully elected in 2022 after holding roles in the private sector as a lawyer and strategy consultant before transferring those skills to work in the not-for-profit sector.
    • Professor Anna Nowak, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) at UWA, is a strong advocate for women in leadership positions. Anna has sought numerous qualifications in leadership and is an enthusiastic and committed mentor. Anna has an extensive background in medical research and practice, spending 17 years as a Clinical Academic, and 16 years as a practising medical oncologist.
    • Carol Schwartz AO, Chair of the Trawalla Foundation and the Women’s Leadership Institute Australia, has catalysed a range of practical solutions including the Pathways to Politics for Women. Carol is highly regarded as a public commentator and agitator on issues of gender equality, women’s leadership, governance and business. Carol has chaired and participated in numerous listed and private company boards and has also chaired major government boards and conducted significant inquiries on behalf of government.

    Welcome to Country will be given by Aboriginal Elder, Aunty Sandra Harben, Whadjuk Noongar yorga and traditional custodian.
