paul mallett is a social justice activist, policy thinker, and servant leader with more than three decades of working alongside communities, families, and people doing it tough across Tasmania.

His work spans health and fitness, education, homelessness prevention, community development, and leadership across children's, family, disability, and care economy services. Throughout, he has remained interested in a simple question: what helps people and communities really thrive?

For paul, the work of creating and sustaining vibrant communities sits with all three tiers of government. Local government shapes the places where people live, gather, move, play, and belong. State government carries responsibility for many of the systems people rely on every day, including schools, hospitals, housing, child and family services, justice, transport, and community infrastructure. The Commonwealth sets many of the national conditions that shape income, work, taxation, migration, social security, health funding, and economic security. None of these responsibilities sit neatly in one box. If our cities, states, and nation are to address the root causes of disadvantage and create the conditions for a fairer, kinder, and more just society, all three tiers of government need to work with communities, not around them.

Before seeking election to public office, paul set himself the task of doing the work in public. He wrote The State of Our Most Vulnerable People 2027, which documents disadvantage across his electorate, and a companion book, The Almost Nearly Perfect Vibrant City, which turns that evidence into a wider argument for prevention-first reform, civic possibility, and practical action. Before asking people to vote, he wanted to be clear about what he had seen, what he stood for, and what he believed could be built.

His broader body of writing reflects the same commitment. The vibrant nation trilogy, Lives Worth Staying For, The Kind Politics Playbook, and the Vibrant Leadership Series all explore prevention, fairness, community renewal, and the practical reforms needed to build a more caring society.
