🐶 WHAT WE’LL COVER
👀 1. KNOW THE SIGNS
Reading dog body language, stress, anxiety and warning signs
Your dog might be telling you something long before they growl, lunge or bite.
Would you recognise it?
Learn more about what dogs may be communicating through their behaviour, including signs of discomfort, stress, arousal and escalation.
We’ll look at interactions between dogs and people, between dogs themselves, and the subtle changes that can occur before a situation becomes unsafe.
🐾 Understanding the warning signs could help you prevent a dog fight before it begins.
🧬 2. KNOW YOUR DOG
Understanding breed, genetics and natural behaviour
Why do some dogs react differently to others? And how well do you really know YOUR dog?
Dogs aren’t blank slates.
Breed, genetics, natural behaviour, individual experience and environment can all influence how a dog responds to the world around them.
Understanding the dog you own can help you provide appropriate outlets, make better management decisions and recognise situations your dog may struggle with.
This isn’t about judging particular breeds.
It’s about recognising that responsible ownership includes understanding the dog in front of you.
🐾 Knowing what drives your dog’s behaviour can help you recognise and manage situations that may put them at risk.
🚨 3. KNOW WHAT TO DO
DOG FIGHTS: WHAT WOULD YOU DO IF YOUR DOG WAS INVOLVED?
This is one of the biggest questions dog owners ask - and one we believe deserves more attention.
Imagine you’re walking your dog when another dog suddenly approaches.
The interaction escalates.
Within moments, the dogs are fighting.
Would you know what to do?
What if you witnessed a serious dog-related incident?
What actions could put you or your dog at greater risk?
We’ll discuss practical considerations around dog fights and serious dog-related incidents, including:
🚨 Recognising when an interaction is escalating towards a fight.
🐕 Understanding the risks involved when attempting to separate fighting dogs.
⚠️ What NOT to do when faced with an aggressive encounter.
🩷 Safer ways to respond to an escalating situation and protect yourself and your dog.
📋 Reporting, community responsibility and understanding what can happen after an incident.
Because knowing what to do after something happens matters - but recognising and reducing risk beforehand matters too.
You cannot predict every situation your dog may encounter. But you can be better prepared.
🏡 4. KNOW YOUR RESPONSIBILITY
Helping your dog live a safe, enriched and fulfilling life
Keeping your dog safe doesn’t stop when you get home.
Responsible ownership is more than loving your dog.
We’ll explore enrichment and fulfilment alongside training, appropriate supervision, management, containment and making decisions that consider your dog and the people and animals around them.
Good management isn’t a punishment.
It is one of the ways we protect our dogs, our families and our community.
🐾 Protecting your dog means understanding their needs, recognising their limitations and taking responsibility for the situations you place them in.
