Pomona & District Community House (PCH) Winter School Holiday Program 2023.

PCH is piloting an accessible low cost vacation care program for Prep to Grade 6 age children. The program is hoped to provide support for working parents/caregivers of the Noosa Hinterland.

$25 per child per day session. (Thanks to our funders PCH is able to provide subsidised vacation care).

Day Sessions are:

9:00am to 3:30pm.
Sessions are tailored for Prep to Grade 6 age children.
Sessions are run by two professional facilitators.
Children are to bring their own water bottle, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea.
Children are to bring a hat. Lunch will be eaten in the community garden (weather dependent).
No refunds will be provided with less than 48hrs notice.
Maximum numbers per session: 12 children.
All staff interacting with children hold blue cards.
All materials are provided for each session by PCH.

Learn how to make a documentary with local filmmaker Jacob Schiotz.

With 20 years experience in documentary and broadcast television, Jacob is keen to share his knowledge with the next generation of content creators. From pre-production through to final delivery, we will make our very own documentary and explore each step along the way.

Discover: how to tell a story; filmmaking styles and genres; how to shoot an interview; camera, audio & lighting techniques; how to shoot B-roll; how to edit your footage; choosing the right music; sound design; colour grading; adding graphics and distributing your film.

Delivered by MindSET-do, UniSC using computational thinking skills, children will learn the function and digital system of Micro:Bit (coding with images, music and sound); code a Micro:Maqueen to carry out self-driving car tasks; and undertake "the challenge" - to code the self-driving car to avoid obstacles.

Computational thinking skills involve solving problems effectively, with or without a computer; creating, collaborating, debugging, persevering, and tinkering.

'Art meets plants' mindfulness workshop for young people.

Combining creativity, the natural environment, mindfulness and socialising, environmental scientist and mental health advocate David Pearce will guide children through how to create and take care of their very own terrarium and kokedama. Kokedama is an ancient Japanese art of hanging moss balls that grow ferns.

Collage, zines and badge making.

Join artist Sarah Bartel, through the makers window, and explore the world of collage, zine making and badges. Zines (pronounced zeen) are small self-published magazines. They provide a chance for you to express something important to you. Sarah creates a supportive and encouraging environment for your child to explore and create.
