PCNSW is holding the Annual Professional Education Day on Friday 16th May. Book your ticket NOW as numbers are limited.

The Professional Education Day is a clinical education event for healthcare professionals from various disciplines working in palliative care.  

In-Person 

Location: Rydges Parramatta (free parking on-site) 

Time: From 9am to 4pm  

Presentations on the day will include:


Session 1 

Providing Person-Centred Palliative Care to Everyone 

This session will include case studies from across disciplines focusing on how palliative care is provided to vulnerable populations and in complex situations. Experts and clinicians will then join a panel discussion exploring these topics and provide an opportunity for attendees to ask questions. 

Themes 

  • Palliative care through an LGBTQ+ lens 
  • Trauma-informed palliative care 
  • End-of-life and palliative care for the Aboriginal community  

Session 2 

Current and Emerging Models of Care 

Current and emerging, supportive and innovative models of care will be discussed through case studies and presentations. There will then be a panel discussion to exploring how these models can improve the way person-centred palliative care can be delivered, how access can be improved and sustained across various settings and teams.

  • Supportive Care (last 12-24 months of life) 
  • Hospital in the Home 
  • Paramedic Capability
  • Compassionate Communities 

Session

Aged Care and Support at Home 

The Australian Department of Health and Aged Care will be providing a 30-minute presentation on the changes to Aged Care starting 1st July 2025, as well as highlighting the end-of-life aspects of the new Support at Home Packages. 

Pain and Symptom Management 

In this session Dr Katherine Allsop from Western Sydney LHD will provide a 30-minute presentation on the latest advances in pain and symptom management in palliative care. There will then be clinical case studies presented and an opportunity for audience discussion and interaction. 

Session 4 

Networking and fun activity to conclude the day.
