You are invited to practise walking meditation with Plum Village Monastics in silence with peace in every step, with peace in every breath. In the spirit of our teacher, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, each of our peaceful steps generates a collective energy that goes out into the world, offering a prayer to ease the suffering of the multi-crisis that we are facing as individuals, families, society and the Earth.

In February 2026, Plum Village led a peace walk in downtown LA. This May, we will walk in peace again in Melbourne.

People attending this walk are also invited to attend the public talk at 4:30 pm at Fed Square. This is a paid event with a capacity of 500 people. For more information & registration, please visit the "Peace is the Way, Public Talk" event page.

To reflect the vigil and contemplative nature of this event, we ask you not to bring any banners, flags, or placards. You are enough.

Who

Anyone is welcome to join, including those who have no experience with Buddhism or mindfulness. For all ages. Minors (under 18 years old) should be accompanied by adults. Moving at a relaxed pace, the walk will take 45 mins to one hour and people are welcome to walk for a shorter length if needed or preferred.

Getting There

We will meet at Kings Domain Gardens in central Melbourne, outside Gate 1, Sidney Music Bowl, This is approximately a twelve minute walk from Flinders St Station or Federation Square.

What to bring

We will be walking in the gardens in autumn so please dress accordingly. Please bring something to sit on as we will enjoy some sitting meditation for around 10 minutes and the grass may be damp. You might like to consider bringing an umbrella and water bottle.

Accessible restrooms are available nearby at the NGV and along Southbank Promenade.

For those continuing to Fed Square for the Public Talk, the route is step‑free: we follow paved, gentle slopes along St Kilda Road and cross Princes Bridge via wide, flat footpaths. Ramps and elevators provide full access to Federation Square (more details available at the Peace is the Way, Public Talk event page).

Accessibility marshals will be present to support navigation, crossings, and any access needs.
