Peaks & Pints
Event description
Join us for an empowering and scenic day in the Columbia River Gorge as we embark on a hike up Wind Mountain, a sacred and historically rich site, followed by a community celebration at Backwoods Brewing Co. in Carson, WA.
Wind Mountain Hike: A Sacred Ascent
Our journey begins with a 1.4-mile ascent via the Wind Mountain Trail, which gains approximately 1,230 feet in elevation. This hike offers a moderate challenge with switchbacks, forested paths, and rocky talus slopes leading to panoramic views of the Columbia River Gorge. From the summit, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking vistas of Dog Mountain, Greenleaf Peak, and the Wind River valley.
Wind Mountain holds deep cultural significance for Indigenous peoples of the region. It is considered a sacred site and was historically used for spirit quests, where individuals sought visions and guidance. The area near the summit features a sacred archaeological site, the Wind Mountain Spirit Quest, created by Native American youths between 1,000 and 200 years ago.
In 1805, the Lewis and Clark Expedition visited this area and documented a submerged forest at the base of Wind Mountain, a relic of the Bonneville landslide that occurred six miles downstream.
Backwoods Brewing Co.: Community Celebration
After our hike, we'll gather at Backwoods Brewing Co. in Carson, WA, to relax and celebrate our shared experience. Enjoy a selection of craft beers brewed on-site, along with a menu featuring hearty pub fare. This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow community members, share stories from the trail, and strengthen the bonds within our Lesbian Culture Club.
