Pensions: A Community Teach-In and Forum

Most of us contribute towards some kind of Pensions, operated by schemes usually offered by our employers. Collectively, these amount to large amounts of money. From Divestment Campaigns across the UK (and globally), to the UK Government's recent announcement that all Local Government Pension Schemes would be invested through "megapools", it is clear that Pensions are critical instruments of finance and big players in economies. But Pensions are as obscure as they are ubiquitous - how they're structured and how they are invested (and why that matters) isn't commonly understood. We are hosting this session to demystify the topic and offer space for reflection.

This is a community teach in and forum. We have planned material to cover some basic facts and statistics around Pensions as well as information tracing how they relate to industries like the arms trade, fossil fuels and illegal settlements. We will have space for an open discussion around how and where we want our pension money to be invested.
