Pepper & Davies and the Southern Grooves with Malumba
Event description
Celebrate the end of our winter hibernation at Navigate Arts with Pepper & Davies and Malumba as they collaborate on each other’s music in six-part fusion heaven to warm your soul!
New Contemporary Folk duo Pepper & Davies are a sublime meeting of a Classical-pop chameleon’s grace with an infamous Blues-Man’s groove. Together Zoey Pepper and Damon Davies invite audiences on an intimate journey through tales of sweet gritty love and finding belonging within the modern landscape. With a sound described as Joni Mitchell meets Jethro Tull, they unpack a suitcase of intricate and poetic new original songs and reinventions threaded with sweeping vocals, rich harmonies, haunting bassoon and dancing guitars, and infused with the occasional curious lilt and harmonic spice. Pepper & Davies are joined by stellar rhythm section, the Southern Grooves, featuring Sam Martin (also a member of Malumba) and Mark Sutton to create a dynamic folk-rock fusion that lilts and grooves somewhere between the exotic and home!Â
Virtuosic, original and exciting, Malumba’s genre-defying music will take you on a sonic journey while making your toes tap and your heart soar. With hints of Klezmer melodies, gypsy jazz harmonies, Celtic instruments and African rhythms, Malumba’s sound is unique and hugely versatile. Blending the sounds of Australia’s top folk and jazz musicians, Dan Efraemson, John Hoorweg and Sam Martin, ensures performances are exciting and full of improvisation!
Join us for this incredible afternoon of live music in the cosy Old Tanja Church, BYO drinks to enjoy with garden fires and delicious homemade treats as we warm up our 2024 Spring/Summer program at Navigate Arts.
