Performing the Archive - 1 on 1 with Jill Orr and STELARC
Event description
PERFORMING THE ARCHIVE asks two prominent Australian artists to choose 20 significant moments from their body of work. Each moment is represented by image cards which are shared with audiences in one-on-one encounters. The work is one of five presented in Leisa Shelton’s exhibition, Archiving the Ephemeral.
Each participant will arrive at the artist’s table where they will see an array of 20 image cards representing key moments in the artist’s life.
The participant needs to choose one card and the artist will explain the background, experience and significance of this work to them as part of a conversation. Once ten minutes have passed, the artist will stamp and sign the back of the card which is given to the participant. Each card is an original artwork designed and offered exclusively for this work.
Each participant will now be custodians of this story and will be asked to display the card somewhere publicly in their home / studio / office so that is encourages conversation with others, where they can tell the story again. In this way the project is actively promoting knowledge transfer and the generational sharing of an artist’s work.
