It’s not often a masterclass name-checks Marie Antoinette, Catherine de’ Medici, and Empress Joséphine but such is the depth of Lucy Borland’s perfume knowledge that this evening becomes a scented passage through time.

From the sacred apothecaries of Florence to the gilded halls of Versailles, from the courts of empresses to the rose fields of Grasse, Perfumery Through the Ages invites you into a world where fragrance isn’t worn it’s lived.

You’ll meet Acqua della Regina, crafted in 1533 for Catherine de’ Medici and still made today by Santa Maria Novella. Step into the shadow of Empress Joséphine, whose signature scents came from the house of Lubin. And discover how today’s modern masters like Aurélien Guichard of Matière Première honour this legacy by growing their own roses to distil fragrance at its purest.

Lucy Borland, our Perfume Sommelier, brings 30 years of expertise to this rare and intimate masterclass. She’ll guide you around the Michael Edwards Fragrance Wheel, share personal insights and help you discover the scent that tells your story.
