Description

Even though we seem inundated with rain at the moment, we must remember that Australia is indeed a land of droughts and flooding rains. And whilst we may currently feel confident in our well watered fields and gardens, we must also remember that this too, shall pass. So it makes sense to prepare for dry times, whether they be later this year as predicted, or some other time.

Wicking Beds are a proven way of maximising production whilst minimising water usage and reducing waste. We're going to look at the theory behind wicking baskets, look at some already in production, and then help our hosts by building a couple of new ones for them, all the time learning about the process.

Then, after a shared picnic lunch in idyllic surrounds, we'll have a look at a new(ish) system for raising seedlings that maximises yield whilst again minimising waste - by using snails. WHAT? Yes, Snails!!

We'll also have a quick look at ways or using water to it's best benefit, either in garden beds or in pots, before having a quick cup of afternoon tea and heading home.

Bring your walking shoes and wet weather gear (just in case), hand gardening tools (well marked for identification), a plate of yummies to share, T&C provided, a mug, plate and cutlery.

As usual, we will have a Share Table for thing you would like to share with other participants. This could be seeds, plants, books, preserves, cakes, anything. The only rule is that if your offerings are not snapped up, you get to take them home again.

Well behaved children welcome under Adult Supervision, (no ticket required), well behaved adults also welcome, (ticket required), supervision optional.

The BP Library will be there for members to peruse and borrow. (And return any books you have finished with.)

And finally, if you are feeling unwell or have the sniffles, please stay at home and recuperate, this is something we would prefer you not share.
