Perpetrator Intervention Facilitator Training (4 Day)

SFV are delivering this training over four days in a group learning style, with opportunities to practice new skills. We invite a range of professionals, from new to established colleagues, who would like to share and learn in an open, workshop-style environment. We will create opportunities to focus on reflective practice and build sector connections.

Participants:

Specialist family and domestic violence professionals commencing or working with adult male perpetrators in men's behaviour change programs or other perpetrators interventions with group work.

Cost:
$994.50 for four days of training.

Catering of morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea are included in the ticket price.

Ojectives:

To equip professionals with essential knowledge and skills to work in men's behaviour change programs and other FDV perpetrator interventions. Explore theory and practice skills for working with adult males who use family and domestic violence harm in the group setting. Some skills will translate to individual settings.

Outcomes:

Participants will strengthen their knowledge, skills and build capacity to provide specialist perpetrator interventions with adult males using FDV including:

Knowledge of:
- FDV perpetrator intervention frameworks, adult learning theory, group work and co-facilitation theory
- WA Perpetrator Intervention Standards and the requirements for organisations and professionals providing perpetrator intervention services.
- Evidence informed risk factors for FDV perpetrator focused risk assessment
Practice in:
- Risk assessment and risk management (safety for families, accountability and case planning)
- Safe and respectful engagement, using micro skills for navigating harmful attitudes and behaviours (including but not limited to collusion midpoint skills, conversational microskills, motivational interviewing)
- Perpetrator mapping
- Fathering goals supporting the safety of children and young people
- FDV-informed documentation
- Group facilitation and co-facilitation practice skills
- Collabaoration, information sharing, and working with victim-survivor advocates and services

Prerequisites

FDV Foundational Training (such as Family and Domestic Violence Awareness, Best Practice in FDSV, or Recognise and Respond to Coercive Control); and Safe and Together 4 day Core training

Without these foundations, participants acknowledge they may find concepts difficult to understand and the facilitators will not have designated time to unpack these foundations.

Overview:

This course aims to equip professionals with essential knowledge and skills to work in men's behaviour change programs and other FDV perpetrator interventions. It explores foundational theory and practice skills for working with adult males who use family and domestic violence harm in the group setting. The training will be delivered in two parts.

Part one: Pre reading

Pre-reading will be provided prior to the workshop.
Pre reading is required to be completed before attending the 4 day workshop.

Part two: 4-day workshop that is delivered in person and explores the following topics:

Practice principles of risk assessment, perpetrator mapping, intersectional and complex needs factors to consider with risk management
The role of the victim-survivor advocate and exploring strategies to prioritise the safety of women, children and other family members
Respectful engagement skills, internal motivators to change, fathering goals and responding to male users of FDV
Explore and practice specialist skills for responding to men using FDV eg, motivational interviewing, managing grooming and collusion, conversational openers.
FDV informed case planning, safety and action plans
Develop strategies for addressing challenging behaviours
Practice group and co-facilitation skills practice
Practice FDV-informed documentation, case notes and report writing
Explore personal and professional bias and create an individual development plan

Assessment:

Individual Development Plan Submission - Due 2 weeks post workshop.
