Daniel Roden is a student of Philosophy Politics and Economics and the current leader of SSDP UWA. He will be presenting on the history of cannabis stigma, focusing on its origins in a series of 20th-century moral panics. Through his work with students and young activists, Daniel aims to build the drug reform movement into a cohesive and informed community, capable of effecting political and cultural change.
Moshe Meyers Neuropsychopharmacology PhD Cand./Student at the University of Western Australia, researching the effects that cannabis (THC and CBD) has on psychosis and its implications in the context of people with schizophrenia, who may or may not benefit from it, (in healthy people through the use of schizotypy measures). He also lectures for the third year advanced neuroscience unit on mechanisms of action of hallucinogens specialising in psychedelics, the drug discrimination procedure (focusing on cannabinoids, LSD, and MDMA), and the neuropharmacology of anti-epileptic medication. He wishes to eventually end up researching and practicing what he preaches about drug assisted psychotherapy for psychiatric disorders including anxiety and depression and in palliative care, using psychedelic drugs (psilocybin, MDMA, ketamine, LSD, and possibly other designer drugs like 5-MeO-DMT) that find efficacy in mental health after his PhD. Moshe will talk about the neuropsychopharmacology of cannabis and how we have gotten to where we are today.
Dr Brian Walker is a GP who was recently elected to WA Parliament as a member of the Legalise Cannabis Party
Professor Simon Lenton is the Director at the National Drug Research Institute and works as a Clinical Psychologist in private practice. He has been researching and writing on cannabis policy since 1994. His research contributed to the Gallop Government’s ‘decriminalisation’ of cannabis in WA in 2004 and he was a member of the Ministerial Working Party on Drug Law Reform that drafted that scheme. His latest book, ‘Legalizing Cannabis’ edited with Tom Decorte and Chris Wilkins, was published by Routledge in 2020. Lazy at heart, he aspires to winning the Life-time Under-achievement Award.
