Phase 4 presents: Chad Morgan
Event description
Phase 4 records presents:
Chad Morgan
with special guest
Johnny Greenwood
It is indeed a great honour as Phase 4 presents two living legends of Australian country music: Chad Morgan with special guest Johnny Greenwood – live and in person at Backbone on Sunday the 31 of October from 3pm.
Chad Morgan began recording in 1952 on the Regal Zonophone label and his first release I’m The Sheik Of Scrubby Creek was an instant success for the man who was also the cane cutter from the Isis. Almost 70 years on, Chad’s still performing his self-written comical country and western songs as well as those from such esteemed Aussie lyricists as John Ashe. At 88 years of age, Chad could very well be the oldest and most prolific entertainer in Australian music history.
Almost a decade after Chad, Johnny Greenwood moved to Brisbane from the west to begin his career as a country singer and songwriter, finding himself on the W&G label in 1963 with his debut, Loving Arms. From performances on the Reg Lindsay Country Show to the small stage at Phase 4’s first shoppe in Bakery Lane, Greenwood has played everywhere with his song craft as both a balladeer and storyteller of Australian folklore from sporting icons Gunsynd – the Goondiwindi Grey and the boxer Tony Mundine to Forby Sutherland – the first European to die in New South Wales. Having been absent from the stage in recent times, it’s a tremendous gesture to have Mr Greenwood perform for us once more.
