Philippine-Australian Relations from 2016 to the Present

Former Australian Ambassador to the Philippines, Amanda Gorely, began her posting in 2016, which marked the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and the Philippines. The milestone year became a formative chapter in her diplomatic career. A decade later, on the eve of the 80th anniversary of relations, Ambassador Gorely reflects on the key shifts and moments that defined this period and how they shaped her perspectives, including on advancing women’s leadership and gender equality.

Held in celebration of Women’s Month, this talk weaves in the importance of embedding gender considerations within foreign policy and bilateral engagement.

About the speaker:

Amanda Gorely was a senior Australian diplomat and former Australian Ambassador to the United Nations, the Philippines, and to Arms Control and Counter Proliferation. Over her distinguished career with the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, she has led Australia’s engagement in multilateral diplomacy, international security, and non-proliferation efforts.
