It’s with great honour that I present to you, my first function and my gift to the community — the Phoenix Kiki Ball.

The Phoenix — a symbol of renewal, rebirth, and revolutionary transformation. This July’s function is a celebration of the brilliance within our community, education through the Ballroom lens, and a shared move toward unity. The essence of Ballroom was built off of survival, and thus the Phoenix honours this philosophy. Ballroom is BLACK, Ballroom is TRANS, Ballroom is QTBIPOC!

A special thank you to my Mother Angel Furia for putting your trust in me to curate this ball for our community. I love you deeply, and thank you to my community for loving and trusting me enough to celebrate and showcase you — my work will always and forever be for the Girls.

I pay my utmost respects to the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Boonwurrung People of the Kulin Nation, who have nurtured and protected these lands that were stolen and never ceded. A treaty has not been formed in the 237 years since the colonisation of so-called Australia. Respect and appreciation is extended to elders past, present and emerging, with a special thank you to the First Nations peoples who will be gathered with us on the night.
