Phoenix Permaculture gardening workshop
Event description
Join Michael at Nambucca Valley Phoenix over 4 weeks for hands-on learning on how to grow your own food in a truly sustainable way.
The workshop will happen every Tuesday from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Starting on the 4th June and finishing on the 25th June.
This workshop will consist of planting out the new gardens. There will be a focus on planting densely with a diverse range of plants that complement each other in order to reduce the need for weeding and pest control.
This workshop will be devoted to preparing new garden areas & will include:
- Basic landscaping
- Building a worm farm for composting
- Learning about what makes good soil
- Pruning of some existing vegetation
- Sowing seeds for soil improvement (cover cropping)
- Planting edibles into existing garden beds
- Learning about what it means to work WITH nature rather than against it
Permaculture gardening focusses on long term health and productivity of the system rather than just throwing a garden together and having short term success before endless pest & disease problems. The fuel for the system (mulch, fertiliser, compost) is all being produced within the system in an endlessly sustainable way. This means no external inputs are required to be bought. This is incredibly valuable as it takes the power away from the large agricultural companies which are ruining our planet by perpetuating an unsustainable gardening culture.
