Phoenix Presents: Hinterlandt at The Church
Event description
Sydney quintet Hinterlandt present their new album “Seven Tales”: an acoustic song cycle of original compositions by German-Australian Jochen Gutsch. On “Seven Tales”, the composer uses violins, cello, guitar, trumpet and vocals to tell seven heartwarming stories – sometimes sad and sometimes funny, but always moving.
For lovers of narrative music, meticulous compositions, and unique instrumentation, Hinterlandt brings a brilliant and refreshing twist on multiple fronts – a must-listen for anyone appreciating intricacy and detail as much as artistic expression and pure, human warmth.
The Sydney Morning Herald gave the album a 4-star review, speaking of “surprising poignancy and delightful black humour.”
CutCommon says “Jochen Gutsch has crafted fictional lives and moments, all woven into his new song cycle to shed light on the human experience.”
The Progressive Aspect states that “at times the strident strings punctuate and attack, other times they weep with melancholy, but invariably, they seize the mood.”
Hinterlandt has performed at Mona Foma Festival, City Recital Hall, Heide Museum of Modern Art, Campbelltown Arts Centre, Ballarat Art Gallery, Wagga Wagga Art Gallery, and many other venues across Australia.
