Event description

Featuring six pianists in three generations, "Piano Extravaganza" recognizes over 40 years of contribution to the music education by Korean-American piano teachers in Boston and celebrates rising young pianists under their wings. Wha Kyung Byun and Jung Ja Kim started their teaching careers in late 70's in New England Conservatory and Boston Conservatory at Berklee, respectively.

The second generation of pianists consists of HaeSun Paik, co-chair of the Piano Department at NEC and a top prize winner at the Tchaikovsky and Queen Elisabeth Competitions, and Minsoo Sohn, incoming NEC faculty member and winner of the Honens International Piano Competition in Calgary. Both of them also studied with Russell Sherman.

The youngest generation is represented by Changyong Shin, first prize winner of the Gina Bachauer International Artist Competition and current artist diploma student,  and Hannah Byun who is currently pursuing DMA at NEC.

The program consists of rarely played pieces for four hands and two pianos, including Mozart, Debussy, Copland/Bernstein, Schubert and Ravel.
