Event description

Fencing North invite you to join us for the
                                          PICKWORTH MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT 2023
                                           Ranking Competition for FOIL Events

Brian Pickworth represented NZ in the 1960 Rome Olympics and in the 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970 Empire and Commonwealth Games.
Originally a keen Rugby player, he switched to fencing after an accident in which he lost his left arm above the elbow. He represented NZ in all three fencing disciplines and won a bronze medal in the sabre teams event at the 1960 Rome Olympics. In addition to gaining distinction as an Olympian fencer, he is also remembered as having been an active tennis player

Under the new FeNZ policy standardising the number of tournaments which can offer Ranking points in each region, the Pickworth Memorial Tournament offers Fencing NZ Ranking Points in the Foil events but not Sabre or Epee events at this competition.

IMPORTANT HEALTH NOTICE - MINIMISING SPREAD OF COVID 19 AND OTHER RESPIRATORY AND FLU-LIKE INFECTIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY

Safeguarding the health and safety of our Fencing North Community and Whanau is very important to us.

At the last Fencing North tournament (our SS Championships), a fencer attended while symptomatic and subsequently tested positive for Covid 19. Transmission to a small number of attendees occurred as a result of this.

Although the NZ Government has removed compulsory COVID 19 safeguards such as mask wearing and compulsory self-isolation there are still a lot of Covid and flu-like infections in the community.
Fencing NZ will be undertaking a review of the Covid 19 policy under which we operate.

After discussions at the last FN committee meeting we have decided to maintain our current approach to safeguarding our community. We will still expect those who become unwell to withdraw from the competition and entry fees will be refunded. Any person becoming symptomatic at a competition may be asked by the DT to retire and leave the venue.
