Pickworth Memorial 2025
Event description
PICKWORTH MEMORIAL 2025
Brian Pickworth represented NZ in the 1960 Rome Olympics and in the 1958, 1962, 1966 and 1970 Empire and Commonwealth Games.
He switched from rugby to fencing after an accident where he lost his left arm above the elbow. He represented NZ in all three fencing disciplines and won a bronze medal in the sabre teams event at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
This is a non-ranking event and we plan to host another FUN & FRIENDLY OCCASION.
Depending on entry numbers in the various events we will use formats to try to maximise the amount of fencing for everyone. There will be chocolate on offer!
The DT will decide about the format(s) when numbers of entries for each weapon are clearer, and if possible, will communicate to fencers before the day.
The objective for the day is to have fun!
Eligibility
You should be over 13 years old on the day of competition…. BUT… we will consider entries from those 11 and older with 1 year or more of Fencing experience..., only by agreement between a coach and the DT.
