Picnic on the Farm for Jenny's Place Domestic Violence & Homeless Support
Event description
Hi, my name is Jen Hughes. On 10 October 2025, I will join 11 amazing women on a challenge to hike the Bay of Fires in Tasmania, raising awareness and much needed donations for Jenny's Place Domestic Violence & Homeless Support.
Why its important
In the 2024/2025 financial year Jenny’s Place supported:
· A total of 1211* women and children experiencing domestic and family violence and homelessness – this represents an 8% increase on last year.
· 75 women and 43 children were accommodated through crisis refuges
· 324 women were supported through homelessness outreach programs
· 181 women and 119 children were supported through the Newcastle Domestic Violence Resource Centre
(*noting some women and children are supported and recorded across multiple programs which accounts for the program data being higher than the total service data)
We estimate the average the cost of supporting each client from specialist intake assessment, through to intensive trauma informed casework and ultimately, to independent living is $2,700.
