    Making Picture Frame with wedged through tenon.

    Well suited for beginners.

    Simply having fun in the workshop for a day!



    Picture Frame

    Gaku means a picture frame. The design is inspired by Wedged mortice and tenon joinery. 

    The basic design includes a few interesting skills, wedged mortice and tenon and the opportunity to use a few types of machines.

    The size of the frame is set to hold a 5" x 7" picture.

    This class is not focused for technical development but more for fun. This class suits beginners. 

    Come and have fun making a wedged tenon picture frame!



    You will gain the following from signing up

    1. A Picture Frame with mat board cut to hold a 5" x 7" picture.
    2. Hands-on experience with Wedge Tennon joinery.
    3. Machine works: Mortiser experience. 
    4. Hand works: Japanese chisel experience, using Japanese saw and plane to make wedges.
    5. 2mm Acrylic sheet: precut, supplied.
    6. Matt paper: precut to 5" x 7", supplied.
    7. 3mm MDF: backboard, supplied.
    8. Fixing staples: supplied.

    Lecturer

    Clare Solomon (KOITOYA Design/Make/Teach)


    Koitoya full time furniture maker. 

    Graduated from ANU School of Art, Furniture. Clare has been active artist exhibiting their own work.

    Clare has been working fulltime with Hiroshi since 2016.

    Clare did a 6-month long residency with Shinrin-Takumi-Jyuku, school for commercial woodworking, and with Tak Yoshino at Mt. Fuji School of Fine Wood Working in 2023.

    Parking

    Please park your car in the public parking area along Maryborough Street (Free), opposite from Burning Log.

    We have two parking spots officially. Please contact me for the spot if you need to walk less for your health condition.



    Way to the workshop

    18 Maryborough Street is battle-axe block, so you will be walking through the driveway that leads to the block from Maryborough Street.

    The driveway has 2 accesses, one next to Burning Log, and one next to Sunrise Church.

    Unit 4 is a blue painted building on the right-hand side of the block.



    To bring

    Please wear working shoes.

    Bring your own water bottle and lunch.
