Speakers & topics

  • Jacinta Critchley - Inclusion, Diversity, and Employment Facilitator, Lyn Beazley Academy

    • ‘Setting the Table’ of Self Advocacy: How my journey and lessons have shaped my experiences and led me to where I am now: The adult neurotypical world is vast complex and highly nuanced; it is not a place where Autism thrives. But it can be, and most people are genuinely kind, and eager to learn and connect in today’s society. Even though somethings may be hard, and sometimes feel impossible, with the right tools the gifts of neurodivergence, and its gifts, can open some amazing doors. So, here is Jacinta’s story, how she learnt to communicate, self-advocate, and create connection in a world not built for her.

  • Susan Hughes - ADHD Coach & Educator

    • Keeping Your Influence: Parenting ADHD Through the School Years: Raising boys in today’s world is complex — and when ADHD traits are present, parenting can feel even more demanding. Many well-intentioned and traditional strategies simply don’t align with how the ADHD brain develops. In her presentation, Susan will combine lived experience and research-backed insight to help parents understand what drives behaviour, why connection must come before correction, and how to build independence without daily conflict. Discover how to protect your influence with every day small shifts and maintain a strong relationship through the school years.

Jacinta Critchley

Jacinta Critchley is the Diversity, Inclusion, and Employment Facilitator at the Lyn Beazley Academy (LBA). She was diagnosed with Autism in the UK in 2008 and then again here in Australia in 2010 where Dysgraphia was added. After making it through school and getting accepted into Curtin to do a degree in Physics she was pulled into the Curtin Specialist Mentoring Program as one of their first participants. It was here that she discovered her love of advocacy. Since then, she has presented at many workshops and presentations about neurodivergence in the workplace and been a trusted advocate in this space. She made the jump to HR a few years ago to better help support leaders as they navigated the neurodiversity landscape. She joined the LBA last year to help support the staff to support their autistic participants, to be an authentic lived experience voice, and to continue her advocacy work by opening doors to the next stage of life for their young people through training and workshops designed and aimed at workplace and university partners. If that wasn’t enough to do in her spare time she sits on the board for Spectrum Space, sits on NAWO’s Intersectionality Advisory Committee, helps teach people how to sword fight, and mentors young people on the spectrum so that they can navigate the world around them.

Susan Hughes

Susan Hughes is an accredited ADHD parent coach who works with both parents and teachers of children with ADHD. As a parent of a child with ADHD, who is now a young adult, she understands the unique challenges that are part of this journey. It was because of her own parenting challenges that she returned to university to study ADHD. She completed a Master of Education in 2017, and there’s nothing like writing a thesis to ensure an in-depth knowledge of ADHD, coaching, and parenting. Susan uses this unique combined knowledge & lived experience, to work one-on-one with parents, as well as deliver her ADHD parenting program “The Confident ADHD Parent Formula”. Developed to provide parents with up-to-date, relevant information about ADHD, the program teaches effective strategies that work for children with ADHD and supports parents in integrating these new skills into everyday life through group coaching. The program aims to optimise parenting strengths to meet the additional needs of children and adolescents with ADHD. In addition to her work with parents, Susan collaborates with teachers & schools to equip them with the tools and understanding needed to support students with ADHD in the classroom. She offers guidance on practical strategies that benefit both teachers and their students, helping create more inclusive and supportive learning environments and reduce stress for both teachers and students.
