Luminaires Charitable Trust brings to you the abso-loot-ley hilarious musical for families,Pirates of the Curry Bean!

Run time 90 minutes plus intermission

Anchors away and set sail for swashbuckling pirate adventure on the high seas in this piratical musical that's sure to shake your booty! Young siblings Jack & Liza Periwinkle yearn for adventure, so imagine their joy at discovering a real life treasure map! But when the infamous Redbeard and his pungent Pirates of the Curry Bean steal the map and kidnap their mother, the race is on to rescue her, reclaim the map and find the treasure! Accompanied by their faithful cat Fiddlesticks, the kids join a mad admiral and his crazy crew on a voyage of adventure that takes them from Old London Docks to the mysterious island of Lumbago in the sea of Sciatica! Will they be first to find the treasure chest, or is a surprise awaiting them that's even better than gold? With colourful characters, sparkling songs and a witty script as sharp as a cutlass, this show is dripping with piratical style!

Plenty of snacks, drinks and pirate treasure available.

RELAXED PERFORMANCE THURSDAY 23 JANUARY

On the afternoon of Thursday 23 January we are offering a relaxed performance for audiences. Pricing is concession / child even if you are not usually eligible for concession.

There are less seats available for purchase on this day to allow for more room. Loud noises and flashing lights will be reduced, house lights will be left on low for ease of movement in and out of the theatre through the show as required. We encourage dancing in the aisles if you choose and vocal interjections are embraced.

A relaxed performance is designed to be more inclusive and accessible for a range of audiences, including those with autism, learning disabilities, or sensory sensitivities.

Luminaires Charitable Trust gives young people supported access to the performing arts, with an emphasis on seeking and supporting those who otherwise may not have the opportunity. Luminaires does this by providing possibilities of participation and skill development producing affordable high quality experiences to a youth audience. Confidence, clarity of communication and presentation is enhanced as they work in a team towards a combined goal. Compassion and appreciation for others is cultivated. Self discipline is strengthened. The social interaction of young people within this setting improves significantly as they form the bonds of friendship and discover like-minded peers. A huge benefit to their ongoing mental health and self worth, as they foster a strong sense of identity and self confidence. Luminaires operates according to a policy of inclusivity, we actively seek and sponsor a selection of participants who could not usually be involved with a learning opportunity like this due to financial hardship and struggle with their transportation needs. Our goal is to find ways to fully embrace the greater whanau for all involved, building community enrichment among families of differing backgrounds in activities where they work together as equals.
