Pitfalls of Packaging: Label Smarts with CCL Label
Event description
This is not your average ‘labels session’.
Led by long-time wine industry and packaging professional Wolf Viergever, this interactive session dives deep into the realities of wine label development and application — from concept and print specs to real-world performance on bottling lines.
Whether you're in marketing, winemaking, or operations, you'll gain a better understanding of the considerations across all stakeholders — and why a label is the one element of your packaging that is 100% bespoke.
Using recent client work (including Starward), Wolf will unpack the challenges between design intent, material limitations, and performance expectations — and how to navigate those successfully. Learn how the CCL Concept Lab bridges the gap between digital mockups and final printed appearance, and what you must consider before placing a label order.
Key Takeaways:
What to consider when briefing your label designer
Common label challenges that impact good application
Matching materials and print methods to your product and process
How to avoid waste, reprints, and line stoppages
How CCL’s Concept Lab helps reduce risk with prototyping
Extras for Attendees:

50% off your first Concept Lab Proof (normally $600 – now $300)
Light lunch and networking from 12:00 PM
Opportunity for 1:1 follow-up conversations in the afternoon

About Your Presenter - Wolf Viergever
The value of any advice or insight is the sum of the experience of presenter. Your label is the single most important packaging item that represents your brand in the most unique and bespoke way.
As your presenter, I have accumulated a few decades in wine, beer and spirits packaging leading development, procurement and innovation. There isn’t a lot of challenges I haven’t seen and yet I am still ready for the next challenge. I have yet to see it all.
I will not give you the ‘ABC’ of label production and how to apply to the bottle, it isn’t that simple – every project is unique and all new projects will have a different challenge. What I will give you is insights of what you need to be ready for and how to avoid errors that will destroy a time line.
I will give you insights into how to deliver your current Labels more effectively by removing waste and driving value.
Who should be there – if you are involved in any form of the wine packaging process, from Design, Marketing, Procurement and Bottling production. This is one event this year you should make the time to be at.
And I do understand your challenges? I have previously owned and operated a 10 acre vineyard and still process several tons a year with the family in our own small facility. I am currently working on delivering my next project – a unique Whisky.
