Place Based Capital Information Session
Event description
Place Based Capital Information Session
Join us for an introduction on stimulating place-based capital, investing, and financing to meet community needs.
Bellingen Shire is rich in ideas, community spirit, and lived expertise, with a shared desire to tackle challenges such as rising living costs, housing affordability, and infrastructure deficiencies. Addressing these issues requires capital—money, funding, and assets—which many lack.
This session will introduce the concept of Place Based Capital, a model that helps communities:
- Identify and create local sources of capital.
- Manage and govern funding locally.
- Invest in local projects, businesses, and organizations.
- Buy, own, and manage community assets like land and infrastructure.
- Pool money for collective impact.
- Provide essential services and reinvest in the community.
- Build reserves for emergencies and future infrastructure needs.
We will also share examples from Bellingen Shire, including the Waterfall Way Community Land Trust, along with case studies from Australia and abroad.
Details:
- Date: Thursday 7 November
- Time: 4:30-6:00 PM
- Venue: Bellingen Youth Hub, 2 William Street, Bellingen.
Hosted by HMAG and led by Meaghan Burkett, the session will introduce the possibilities of a longer series in 2025.
