Description

Help shape the future of Melbourne

What would make Melbourne a great place to live over the next 25 years?  Building on what we heard from young people through the M2050 Vision work, this workshop is a chance to take the next step and help shape what Melbourne could look like in the future. Join us for an interactive workshop where young people can share their ideas about what would make Melbourne a great place to live, work, study, relax and spend time with friends.

Together, we’ll explore draft directions for Melbourne’s future, share what works and what could be improved, and imagine what life could look like in 2050. You’ll have the chance to contribute your ideas, challenge what’s been proposed and help shape the future of Melbourne.

Who? young people 16 - 25 years old

No experience needed. Just bring your ideas!

Food will be provided at the workshop, and participants will receive a $50 gift voucher as thanks for their contribution.

Getting to Naarm Ngarrgu library:

Tram routes 19, 57 and 59 stop nearby at Queen Victoria Market. There are two roads to cross, which have pedestrian lights, then about 100 metres of footpath to the library.  There will be a staff member out the front to greet you. Youth Project coordinators in the community wellbeing team and staff from City Strategy will be facilitating and supporting young people throughout the workshop.

The main entrance to the library is on Therry street, there are two options to get into the space, two flights of stairs or a lift. The event space will have big floor length blue curtains up, and is located just near the entry, alongside reception desk.

Plan for Melbourne overview

Melbourne has never stood still. The laneways, parks, tram routes and skyline we know today have all been shaped by decisions made over generations.

Think about your life as a young person in Melbourne. How you get around, where you work, the local park, the places you meet friends, shop or spend time. As our city continues to evolve, how do we build on what makes Melbourne special while preparing for the next 25 years?

We’re developing a Plan for Melbourne, a long-term plan that guides where growth occurs and how land is used across the city. It will influence where future homes, jobs, services, transport and public spaces can be located, and how easily people can access them in the future.

The Melbourne 2050 Vision sets out the future Melburnians want to see. Plan for Melbourne is the next step, turning that vision into a plan that will guide planning decisions and help shape how Melbourne grows and changes over the coming decades.
