Event description

We are conducting a research study to understand the range of viewpoints toward planetary health, sustainability, and educational constructs around these among health professions educators. Humanity faces a triple threat of climate change, loss of biodiversity, and pollution. Amidst glaring evidence of the interdependence of human health and eco system, there is an urgent call for healthcare professionals to concern themselves with the triple planetary threat humanity faces, this study is part of a larger study that aims to explore the role of healthcare professionals within this space.

Taking part in this study will involve completing a brief online questionnaire and engaging in a 2-hour workshop titled ‘Planetary Health and Health Professions Education’ at Room no. 739 (D18, level 7), the Susan Wakil Health Building, University of Sydney, Camperdown, NSW on 7th May 2024 from 2pm - 4pm. The workshop will include:

  • A presentation
  • An individual activity
  • Focus group discussions

Consenting to this study and participating in this workshop will provide you an opportunity to
    •  gain knowledge on planetary health with a specific focus on the role of healthcare in it,
    • reflect on yours (and others) sustainability attitudes and practices, and
    • discuss barriers and facilitators to planetary health in your workplace with other healthcare professionals that might help generate innovative local solutions.

All health professions educators are invited to participate. We encourage participation from a range of healthcare educators, including those who are unsure or even sceptical about their roles in this space.

This study has been approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of The University of Sydney [2023/789].
